Emerging Technologies to Transform Training Rapidly emerging changes in technology challenge every workplace learning and performance professional, while presenting opportunities for growth and development. Dr. Gary Woodill will present a general overview of the state of e-learning today, and introduce 10 of the most transformative emerging e-learning technologies in terms of their impact on the workplace. As well, he will show how new e-learning websites are being built around the idea of a mashup, that is, a mixing of many different technologies and information sources into a just-in-time personalized offering for each learner.
There are two kinds of innovation that apply to the development of new learning technologies. Incremental innovations improve the way that training is done but don't radically change the dominant approach to instruction. Disruptive technologies, on the other hand, threaten the structure of how things are currently done. A review of learning technologies shows that there are over 50 distinct technologies being used in online learning today. Examining technology innovation curves can help us distinguish between the two types of innovation, and locate ourselves as the world changes around us.
